Owning a Porsche had always been a childhood dream... This
fine example of German engineering exceeded all of my expectations...
This '93 Porsche 968 Cabriolet has been trouble free with only regular
maintenance required. I was an active member with the Central Iowa
Region of the Porsche Club of America. It was always a pleasure to
get the car out for local events as well as travel to some of the
national conventions (Porsche Parade).
With an expanding family, priorities have changed and I am putting my
Porsche Passion on hold. I will miss this vehicle greatly!
I am quite particular about my vehicles. I always allow for proper warm-up before normal operation. (Keep RPM below 1/2 of redline until up to temperature - then wait for the same amount of time for oil to catch up to water temp.) All of my vehicles have Mobil One flowing though their oil passages. Only the best to ensure a long and happy life for such wonderful machines!
Vehicle Description
This Porsche 968 Cabriolet is a pretty rare find. Please visit my
website for more information about this unique color:
Amazon Green Metallic.
Most Amazon Green Metallic Cabriolets came with a tan interior and also
most have the Automatic 4-speed Tiptronic. The Amazon Green
Metallic with Black interior is a wonderful combination. This car
also has the Porsche Exclusive deviating seat piping - blue trim along
the edges of the seat. It's a subtle contrast, however, with the
top down it sure is sharp!
Fully loaded with all power including: 236hp 3.0 liter 4 cylinder engine
with Variocam, 6-speed manual transmission, semi-automatic power top, AM/FM stereo system with CD
player, ice cold air conditioning and toasty hot heating system, heated seats, and 16"
chromed aluminum alloy wheels. All the pleasures of owning a
Porsche with a known history purchased from a passionate owner! Complete with
factory owners manual, specification book, 6 volume service manuals,
nose cover (bra - never used), custom-fit car cover, receipts / service
history, and any other extras that will go with the car. You will
enjoy this Porsche 968 Cabriolet! Buy with confidence.

Q: your pics show
blue green interior and you state its black - whats up with this? can this
car be temp tagged and registered in your state for drive away to be
resgistered in another state? thanks
Answered on May-07-05
A: I believe it was the way the sunlight (near
sunset) was hitting the seats. The interior is black and in great condition.
The car was always garaged - no fading or discoloring. Visit http://www.ninesixtyeight.com/my968/insideandout.htm
for more pictures. The following is copied from the Iowa Department of
Transportation: "If the non-Iowa buyer does not have valid plates for the
vehicle and it is currently registered, the county treasurer will issue a
30-day transit plate for $3." So that will not be a problem at all.
Q: Have you ever got
an estamate on repairing the cruise control? Can you put the top down while
driving? On my car the top can only be put down while stopped. It's a
beautiful car and seems well taken care of. No fluid leaks of any kind is
there. thanks
Answered on May-04-05
A: I've seen a "how-to" on removing the cruise
control brain and doing a bit of cleaning / re-soldering, however, it was
something I never really needed. It's such a smooth car that's quite easy to
modulate the speed through the pedal. The top can only be operated when
stopped, with the engine off. Only fluid leak is a minor power steering leak
(detailed in 3rd response on item).
Q: Hi Jason, Glad to
see your car for sale - I've admired it at your "All Things 968" for some
time now. How long have you owned the car? Has the pinion bearing issue ever
arisen/has it been repaired? What recent maintenace (last 20K) has been
completed (belt, pump, tensioner, brakes, clutch, etc.) Any leaks or sweats?
Any interior issues (rips, cracks, etc.) What is status of elec. system (p.window
motor, AC, etc.). I am a PCAUCR member and own a S2 cab - looking to
upgrade. Looking forward to hearing back. Regards, Paul
Answered on May-04-05
A: I'm a bit obsessive of this car – my website
http://www.ninesixtyeight.com/ is proof of that. I bought the car in ’98
with 50K miles and there has been no issue with the pinion bearing. All
belts, rollers, water pump, and coolant were replaced around 67K at the
Porsche Dealer. Around 5K back, I had new Potenza S03’s mounted and I
checked pads and rotor thickness and everything was looking good and
checking within spec. I have a set of Porsche brake pads (that go with the
car). I replaced brake fluid at that same time - ATE Super Blue. The only
minor leak is power steering fluid from the clamp that hooks the hose to the
power steering reservoir. The old reservoir was cracked and I replaced that
a couple of years ago (should have put new hoses and clamps at that time).
Interior is in great shape - the car was always garaged - no fade, leather
and vinyl always treated, no rips or cracks. All electrical is in great
shape - only the cruise control works intermittently (common 968 issue).
Q: I want to know
about the mechanical reliability. I'm interested in driving the car for at
least two seasons out of the year (Spring / Summer). Is it an everyday car?
Answered on May-04-05
A: Per our phone convseration, a 968 (or any
Porsche) should most definately be an everyday car. In addition, I wanted to
mention the comfort level is quite high. A friend and I drove the car to the
2000 Porsche Parade (national convention) - Iowa to Wyoming the first day,
then on to Sacramento, California the next. In 2002, Porsche Parade was held
in Boise, Idaho. Pretty much the same route (just head North at SLC instead
of straight). I was alone on that trip :-) I loved those 75 mph (++!)
states!
Q: Any issues with
the pinion bearings on this car? Have they been dealt with?
Answered on May-01-05
A: No, there is no issue with the pinion bearing.
I bought the car with 50,000 miles on it and if there were any issues they
were adressed before that. From what I've heard, that problem would have
shown up around 30-40K, if it shows up at all.
Here's my first Porsche - purchased the summer of '98 from European Motors Limited in
Cedar Rapids, IA.

I
loved my Porsche... I'll miss the PCA Concours, Parades, Scenic Drives, etc...
BUT... I am getting married and the toys must be "cashed-in"
(quite willingly, by the way - It's so great to find that special someone!)
